If, instead of an embassy, a consulate general is opened in the respective state capitals, the consulate general receives far reaching powers.

Which requirements must be met for the above positions?

 

In the embassy 

  • At least one foreign language. (English, French, Spanish, Portuguese)
  • Diplomatic skills at a high level.
  • Comprehensive, good general education.
  • Good financial background.
  • Ambassadors and envoys must not be citizens of the recipient country.

 

 Employees in the embassy, such as attachés, can also be citizens of the recipient country. The new ambassador is expected to guarantee not to close the embassy in the following 5 years.

 

Ambassadors, envoys, attachés, etc. are fully accredited diplomats and receive full immunity, a diplomatic passport, diplomatic license plates and other comprehensive prerogatives and privileges.

 

Consulate General / Honorary Consulate General / Honorary Consulate: 

  • At least one foreign language (English, French, Spanish, Portuguese), perfect writing and speaking skills.
  • Diplomatic skills at a high level.
  • Comprehensive, very good general education.
  • Good financial background.
  • Good contacts to industry or culture, sports, etc.

 The consul general enjoys partial immunity, diplomatic passport, exequatur from Ministry of Foreign Affairs, consular card from the State Chancellery. The office is awarded for life.

 

Economic missions: 

  • At least one foreign language (English, French, Spanish, Portuguese)
  • Diplomatic skills.
  • Comprehensive good general education.
  • Good financial background.
  • Good contacts to industry or culture, sports, etc.

The head of the economic mission is an embassy attaché, a fully accredited diplomat, who receives full immunity, a diplomatic passport, diplomatic license plates for cars and other extensive prerogatives and privileges. The office is awarded for life.

 

For the positions of ambassador, envoy and consul general candidates are expected to introduce themselves before taking on the office in the sending state, especially to the state president and the respective foreign minister. Embassy attaché, honorary consul and head of economic mission should introduce themselves to the sending country within one year of assuming the office.
